2017 Spring Play "Rabbit Hole"

Down the Rabbit Hole...

The WG Drama Department and the 2016-2017 Thespian Officers produced David Lindsay-Abaire's the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play Rabbit Hole on the Jerry R. Knight Auditorium, but we made it a more intimate experience by staging it in black box.

The Officers were looking for a project to help raise funds for next year's officers would have a budget to play with throughout the year. This would allow for future student productions and projects.

The goal of this project was to spend little and make some money in the end...we accomplished the goal and the officers made about $400 and started a new "Officer" Booster Club for the drama department.

REHEARSAL

We rehearsed the show off campus, in the (unfinished) black box classroom space. They started staging the show in Dec, and when we got back from State Conference they picked up the pace and really started pushing the show toward opening night.

The show was a collaborative effort. The cast had Elliot Williams sitting in to keep an eye on the show, Mr. Schaefer also blocked scenes and worked on character with the actors, and all of the members of the cast worked on getting everything memorized.

Shout out to Freshman Eva Berger for Stage Managing the production. She was on book for the last rehearsals, mapped all of the props for each scene, and she was backstage as running crew.

The set design was originally conceived by Bridget Kahrhoff. She presented several floor plan designs and the cast and Mr. Schaefer settled on a version that combined several of the ideas.

THE SET
When the calendar opened up mid Jan we were finally able to load in to the Aud, and the 5th Hour Advanced Tech Class worked for almost two weeks legging platforms and building the set in the SR side of the stage.

It was an interesting challenge to represent a two story house in such a tight space.

LIGHTING

The lighting was also completed in a very short amount of time. Sophomore Ethan Ryan and his lighting crew work very hard to hang and focus the show. They created a lot of wonderful depth with the design and took us from day to night throughout the show.
